Chesa Boudin is currently a San Francisco Public Defender and a candidate for district attorney in the city and county of San Francisco, California. The election will be held on November 5, 2019.
Chesa is the son of two former members of the Weather Underground, Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert. The Weather Underground was a left-wing militant group active in the 1960s and ‘70s. His parents acted as getaway drivers in the 1981 Brinks armored car robbery in New York ending in the deaths of two police officers and a security guard. Both Chesa’s mother and father served prison time with his father still in prison in the state of New York. Kathy Boudin was released on parole in 2003.
As a San Francisco Deputy Public Defender, Chesa has handled more than 300 felony cases including attempted murder, shootings, stabbings, drug sales, kidnapping, and auto burglary. Chesa is well known for his work in criminal justice reform.
